Worker Bee David Westervelt, assistant chief of apiary inspection, is still recovering from jetlag following a 3-day excursion to Grenada providing workshops at the Caribbean Bee College (CBC).  The CBC is a partnership with the East Caribbean Bee Research and Extension Center at St. Georges University in Grenada, Association of Caribbean Beekeepers’ Organization, and the Grenada Association of Beekeepers. The program was offered in the Caribbean for the first time through collaboration between the University of Florida and the Division of Plant Industry.

The program is a honey-bee extension event serving beekeepers, farmers and others in bee-related industries. The goal of the program is to share tools, information and resources. FDACS hopes this program will improve the sustainability of beekeeping among the Islands for future generations. The program featured beginner and experienced tracks that encompassed information for beekeepers of all levels. In addition, live honey bee colonies are on site to facilitate a hands-on learning experience for all participants.
