Guacamole goes International

August 13, 2013

We are pleased to pass along some great recipes from Brooks Tropicals, a major producer of Florida avocados as well as tropical fruits. As you enjoy your guacamole, please think about ways you can help protect the Florida avocado from a major threat: Laurel wilt disease. It’s caused by a fungus transmitted by the invasive redbay ambrosia beetle, and it kills avocado and other trees in the laurel family. These insects can enter Florida on infested firewood and host trees from unregistered nurseries.

Two words for you

Chutney Guacamole

Onion dip. Standard party fare for the 20th century. Rarely seen in this one. People got bored with it.

image004Will guacamole face the same demise? Compared to sour cream, SlimCados are a nutritional powerhouse, so let’s hope not.

So let’s mix it up. Guacamole is versatile as an ingredient. And guacamole made with SlimCados is just a slimmer way to enjoy a favorite dip that’s also a flavorful ingredient.

Guacamole made easy

For these recipes, you can use your own guacamole recipe or use mine.

It’s easy. Add one SlimCado to a packet of Concord Foods Guacamole mix. Once you have made the guacamole, you can go wild with it or go international like I did.

SlimCados have half the fat and a third fewer calories than Haas avocados, naturally.

How can that be? Haas are grown in dry environments such as Mexico, Chile and California. SlimCados are grown in Florida, where it’s anything but dry. It takes a different variety of avocado to grow down here. Grow ’em we do – and have done so for over 85 years.

More nutritional information…

SlimCados deliver a great avocado taste to almost any dish. So recipe experimentation with guacamole as an ingredient is easy and delicious.

SlimCados are harvested in Florida, June through January. Try them in your favorite guacamole recipe or make it easy with Concord Foods Guacamole Mix.

Yours in the tropics,
Mary Ostlund
