A Quick Look at What we Do

October 25, 2013

This fair display helps demonstrate the wide scope of activities the Division of Plant Industry performs to fulfill its mission as a regulatory agency of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer
Services. The division works to detect, intercept and control plant and honey bee pests
that threaten Florida’s native plant and agricultural resources.

Take a closer look.

From left to right in the display, above, is a demonstration honey bee hive, a live bee colony, a back board highlighting various laboratory and field activities and tables featuring arthropod specimens and offering pamphlets.

The beetles will also make a live appearance. The beetles we rear to attack the invasive air potato, that is.

Flanking the display on the left is a poster for our “Don’t Pack a Pest” Travelers Program and on the right, a big Halloween bug man supporting the national “Don’t Move Firewood” campaign.

Look for our displays at other events around the state.
